Death Penalty Paper Essay

The death penalty is something that many people do not have a clear decision on. Many people support the death penalty, while others wish for the death penalty to be abolished, yet there are some that support the death penalty, but only in certain cases. My personal opinion is that a person commits murder and is sentenced to death there should be no waiting. I believe 24 hours from the time the person is sentenced to death, the state should follow through with their punishment and execute. There are people in the world that support the death penalty and often say that the death penalty is a deterrent for future criminals who are thinking and plotting out their heinous crimes or murder as we sit in our living rooms right now. Capital Punishment does not act as a deterrent force. Crime rates do not decrease in states where capital punishment is used. This statement can be neither proven nor disproven. How do you measure the amount of people who have been deterred from crime? Do you take a poll? Is there a survey conducted where people voluntarily admit they would have murdered had they known they would not be executed if they were caught? No. You can’t prove that it deters crime. So, even if it does, there is not enough evidence to support this theory. Do you agree with this statement? For me, when I think of a criminal they are not thinking of consequences of their actions, they are not thinking of whom they are going to hurt, they are only thinking of getting what they want. They think in the â€Å"Now†, they simply just do not care. If they had any sort of emotion or remorse before the crime is committed then our prisons wouldn’t be so over populated as they are today. Amnesty International, which opposes the death penalty, reports that scientific studies have not produced any conclusive evidence showing that capital punishment, is a deterrent for future crimes to be committed. I believe the only deterrent for a murderer not to commit a horrific crime again would be execution. Executing a dangerous criminal ensures that he will not kill again. There have been several notable cases where men were paroled, or escaped from prison after being convicted of murder and killed again. The death penalty protects our community by eradicating a harmful criminal from society. A few good examples are Randy Greenwalt, Arthur Shawcrossm, Kenneth McDuff, and  Daniel Camargo Barbosa. Various people who are opposed to the death penalty say that Capital Punishment condemns the innocent to die. According Amendment V in the United States Bill of Rights, â€Å"No person shall be held to answer for a capital crime, or otherwise infamous crime unless on a presentment of an indictment of â€Å"grand jury†. While it is true that a few innocent people have â€Å"slipped through the cracks† of the justice system and been convicted and executed unfairly, it   is extremely rare. Usually, attorney’s find new evidence to support a criminal’s innocence by the time all appeals have been exhausted. Perhaps the most important factor in determining whether a defendant will receive the death penalty is the quality of the representation he or she is provided. Almost all defendants in capital cases cannot afford their own attorneys. In many cases, the appointed attorneys are overworked, underpaid, or lacking the trial experience required for death penalty cases. There have even been instances in which lawyers appointed to a death penalty case were so inexperienced that they were completely unprepared for the sentencing phase of the trial. Other appointed attorneys have slept through parts of the trial, or arrived at the court under the influence of alcohol. FACTS ABOUT ATTORNEY S AND THE DEATH PENALTY: †¢Almost all defendants who face capital charges cannot afford an attorney and rely on the state to appoint one for them. However, often times appointed attorneys are overworked, underpaid, lack critical resources, and are either incompetent or inexperienced. As a result when death sentences are set aside by the federal courts, it is often because among other reasons the trial attorney was so incompetent that the accused’s constitutional right to effective counsel was violated. Slipski 4 †¢In 2009, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions conducted an official visit to the United States to examine the administration of the death penalty in Alabama and Texas. Alabama has the highest per capita rate of executions in the United States, while Texas has the largest total number of executions and one of the largest death row  populations after California and Florida. The Special Rapporteur expressed concern about deficiencies in the administration of the death penalty in Alabama and Texas, including â€Å"the lack of adequate counsel for indigent defendants.† He called for the two states â€Å"to establish well-funded, state-wide public defender services† and recommended that â€Å"oversight of these should be independent of the executive and judicial branches.† The state of Alabama has no statewide public defender system even though its death row occupants are overwhelmingly poor with 95% indigent. †¢An examination of 461 capital cases by The Dallas Morning News found that nearly one in four condemned inmates has been represented at trial or on appeal by court-appointed attorneys who have been disciplined for professional misconduct at some point in their careers. †¢An investigation by the Texas Defender Service found that, â€Å"Death row inmates today face a one-in-three chance of being executed without having the case properly investigated by a competent attorney and without having any claims of innocence or unfairness presented or heard.† †¢In North Carolina, at least 16 death row inmates, including 3 who were executed, were represented by lawyers who have been disbarred or disciplined for unethical or criminal conduct. With all this being said regarding lawyers and the accused what do you think? Do you think if the accused had an expensive attorney that they would not be facing the death penalty and get life in prison instead? I guess that this is a question that we all would love to have the answer to. As they say money makes the world go round. Think of all the costs that are involved with the death penalty. Tax payers pay to house, cloth, food, and the medical bills alone for this one inmate will cost us millions. All the millions of dollars that are spent on this one life can be used to better our communities, or schools, educate our children, who are our future. We should stop wasting money on rehabilitation for these inmates, and put the money into what is important, our children, the future of The US. I fully support the death penalty, it makes me so upset to think back to the Cheshire, CT murders, the amount of money spent on two men who were caught at the scene of the crime, confessed to murdering an innocent woman and her kids, and beating her husband almost to death.  They should have been executed the day after they committed that horrific crime. Instead, the government wasted and is still wasting millions of dollars on two criminals who do not deserve to see the light of day. Something needs to change in our government. I believe Connecticut should be more like Texas. A state that enforces Capital Punishment to the fullest. Enough is enough! Criminals should not be running our lives and getting away with murder, literally! In conclusion, after reading all the facts stated above, how do you feel about the death penalty? Do you think we should be paying for these criminals to live in prison with a meal, a bed to sleep in, medical attention, and clothes on their backs? In my opinion the answer would be, no. Then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The punishment should fit the crime, and I am all for an â€Å"eye for an eye†, â€Å"a tooth for a tooth†, what about you? Abraham Lincoln's Presidential Election Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Abraham Lincoln's Presidential Election - Essay Example Some critics say that the success was purely due to the clashes occurred in the Democratic Party before the elections. However, many argue by showing statistics that the votes polled for and electoral seats won by Republican Party were much higher than the seats won by other parties jointly. However, all this success was very much based on the campaign run by the Republican Party prior to elections. The Republican Party focused on the campaign in the North only. Several leaflets, posters and published editorials focusing on the story of Lincoln’s life were used in campaign by the Republicans. His nickname ‘Honest Abe’ was also very much used. The main focus, throughout the campaign, was Lincoln’s childhood poverty. This showed that the labor is superior and a poor boy could even work to pave his way to the top of leadership by his efforts. Abraham Lincoln was of the view that the slavery should not be allowed to expand in further states of America. He wanted to put it to end but slowly and through constitutional Reforms. However, his success in 1860 elections was not liked by the Southern states as most of the residents of these states own slaves and they perceived that Republican Party wants to end slavery in America completely. This initiated conflict between North and South America. This eventually resulted in Civil war in America which resulted in bloodshed for a period of 4 years in America.

How do Robinson Crusoe's reactions to various characters or groups Essay

How do Robinson Crusoe's reactions to various characters or groups throughout the novel explain European attitudes - Essay Example The venturing personality of Robinson Crusoe depicts Europeans’ great desire in to adventure the globe and thus bring the corresponding expansion which is not easy to achieve in civilized society like America. Thus as a result Crusoe turns out to be violent and engaged in attacks in order to achieve his desires. This illustrates the Europeans colonization of the Americans so that they can enforce their policies on them despite their civilization. Moreover, Crusoe slowly learns to assert himself to people in a land where he does not belong and becomes more assertive to an extent of attacking traders. This shows the Europeans colonization when they would assert their policies in other countries and remain authoritative than the natives. In the novel Defoe presents Crusoe at first as a violent person which boosts his exploration as well as development. This character portrays the violent attitude of the Europeans towards their colonies in the native America and in Africa. Crusoe goes against his parents’ advice of not going to the sea hence this shows how violent and determined he is just like the Europeans in the colonies. Crusoe’s inhuman and violent character towards African slaves shows how the Europeans were pessimistic of African people and how they were contempt about them. He engages in slave trade which shows how Europeans are inhuman towards Africans. The immoral nature of Robinson is also of concern in this novel as suggested by Defoe and Chalmers . For instance he and his friend Friday they attack the feasting cannibals. This in particular depicts the Europeans as immoral people who do not value the well being of other people especially the Africans. The fact that Crusoe sold Xury, one of hi s best friends, portrays him as a betrayer. This is a reflection of how Europe treated other countries by inventing them and takes control of everything. For instance in Africa, the Europeans would take away their land and use the land owners as their own slaves. Crusoe’s belief in his personal superiority over the slaves and this illustrates the Europeans superiority over their colonies. The European countries considered themselves as superior than any other country in the native America, America and in Africa hence the colonization. Robinson Crusoe’s strong belief in Christianity is portrayed by his ability to remain a protestant despite living a state dominated by catholic. This is reflective of the Europeans’ spread of Christianity in most parts of the world including African and American states. The Europeans viewed people from these countries as far from God and that they engaged in unchristian life and that is why they were suffering. This is further illu strated by Robinson’s action of converting Friday to Christianity. Thus the novel portrays the rules of claims of the aspect of the relation between Christianity and England. Robinson’s hardworking trait is portrayed in this novel in various ways which also reflect the attitude of Europeans towards other countries. For instance Robinson never gave a second thought to any business venture. This is reflecti

Accounting Information Systems - Information Needs for the AIS Research Paper

Accounting Information Systems - Information Needs for the AIS - Research Paper Example However, it is noteworthy that the benefits of the package generally outnumber the development cost. Accounting Information System delivers useful information to its user in a timely and systematic manner. The system is utilised by management for governing various organisational functions such as cash transactions, account receivables, account payable and so on and so forth. In every organisation, the accounts department is responsible for management of large volume of transactional data. The excess load of the accounts department is eased by the AIS. The AIS collect these data, arrange and store them accordingly and deliver them whenever necessary. The AIS is a computerised system comprising almost all automated functions; even so, the components of the system include involvement of human resource, instructions, procedures, data, information technology, security measures and internal controls. Considering all these factors, it can be ascertained that AIS is not completely automated and this is the reason that the software is prone to certain drawbacks. It has been observed that may corporate leaders and managers often make wrong assumptions regarding AIS resulting to ineffective performance of the system (Fuhong, 2012; Romney, et al., 2000). Argument: According to various authors, the excessive availability of information to a decision maker is considered as noise to the information environment. Consumers, presently, have significant access to vast data through internet and telecommunication channels which consequently enhances their options and confuse them. A number of authors advocated that managers can make influential decision only when they can consciously distinguish between necessary information and noise within a particular system. Noise generally incapacitates even the most resourceful decision maker, resulting to poor outcome (Lau, 2008). Argument: Research suggests that learning various aspects of the accounting information system can be time

And do they get the information they want? Do they use the hyperlinks that link them to other pages? And do the hyperlinks direct them to the right destinations? Addressing the objective this way will help HFC to know how the users of companys website navigate through the existing website. 3. To compare perceptions of the organisations website relative to the websites of its competitors What do users think about the quality of Nestlà ©s website to that of competitors? Do they find Nestlà ©s website colourful than that of competitors? How resourceful do they find Nestlà ©s website in comparison with that of competitors? How easily are they able to navigate through the current website in comparison with that of Nestlà ©s competitors? What do they find interesting about competitors website that cannot be found on Nestlà ©s website? How do they rate Nestlà ©s website and that of Nestlà ©s competitors? 4. To identify the potentials for enhanced features on the website Is the website user friendly? How do they find Nestlà ©s new homepage? How fast or slow does it open when they click? How do they see Nestlà ©s new E-commerce shopping cart provided on the website? How helpful do they find Nestlà ©s new auto response help feature? How do they see Nestlà ©s new 247 chart support feature? How do they see Nestlà ©s new Flip catalogue/interactive e-catalogue? 5. To assist in the selection of the overall design or the website What do they think are the gaps in our existing website? What pictures do they wish to see in the new website to be developed? Do they wish to see animated images or still pictures? What is the reason for the choice? What feature on the website will they suggest to be improved upon? Any suggestion to what feature to be repositioned on the website? And why? 4.0Research Methodologies: In carrying out our research, we will make use both secondary and primary research methodologies to collect data that will guide us in the development o the new company website. 4.1.1Secondary/ Desk Research: Secondary research is defined as ‘information compiled inside or outside the organisation for some purpose other than the current investigation (Dibb et al 2001). However, this type tends to have been collected for other purposes other than for the current research objectives at hand. Purpose: In conducting the research, we will start with secondary research in order to know what information is available to us before we carry out primary research. This is to make use of the already stored data in the company database. This will give us insights of how and what to investigate further. Because the data already exist it saves time and money and also serves as a guide for primary research. However, this type tends to have been collected for other purposes other than for the problem or objective at hand. For this reason we will carefully examine the data in order to choose the relevant one. In order to collect relevant and concrete data for the research, we will set a criteria to guide us in screening the secondary data. The following questions will help us to do the screening: How relevant, accurate, and valid is the data? How current and reliable is the information? What is the cost involved in acquiring the information? How long does it take to quire the information? What was the purpose for which the data was collected? Is the data collected bias? Procedure: We will conduct a comprehensive research on both internal and external data sources pertaining to the website of Nestlà © for the purpose of this project. Having done that, we will give an interim report base on the research findings 4.1.2Internal Secondary Data: Internal secondary data is ‘data that have already been generated and/or collected by a business during its normal course of activity (www.esomar.org/../glossary-i.html). The internal secondary data of Nestlà © are the data that have already been collected and exist inside the company database which references could be made whenever the need arises. We will need to be provided with some data from the database to help us in the research. We will need data like; Data collected on complaints about the current website Data collected on the number of views by browsers per day We will need to be provided with ‘FAQ about the site We will need to be provided with previous expenditure made on web designs The reason for this is to have some facts pertaining to the existing website of the company to guide us in our research. 4.1.3External Secondary Data: The external secondary data are the ‘existing data that have already been collected by other organizations. (www.esomar.org/index.php/glossary-e.html). Data from outside Nestle which has been collected by individuals, or agencies for other purposes pertaining to Nestle will be referred to for information for the sake of this research. 4.1.4Justifications of Secondary Research The information already exist in one form or another, therefore it is relatively cheap It can be conducted quite quickly to provide marketing information where primary data is not yet available or not sufficient Secondary research can serve as a guide for primary research Although secondary research is important, it is not as accurate, or as useful, as specific and customized as primary research. 4.2Primary Research Primary research is defined (also called field research) involves the collection of data that does not already exist (wikipedia.org). We will conduct primary research to collect data specifically to help us achieve the set objectives in the project brief. There is the need to conduct a primary research for this project because; The secondary data collected might not reflect the research objectives at hand The data may be bias depending on who collected it In other to have a reliable and relevant data that corresponds with the current research objectives at hand, we will conduct a primary research. For this research we will address both qualitative and quantitative primary research methods to gather information. 4.2.1Qualitative Research Qualitative research is a body of research techniques which seeks insights through loosely structured, mainly verbal data rather than measurements (MRS, 2007). The qualitative research is extremely useful due to the research objectives at hand. We will start with exploratory research by using focus group discussion to tap data from browsers to guide us in developing a new website. Purpose: The purpose of the qualitative research is to help us gather in-depth information. We will undertake the research by taking a sample size of browsers of our existing website since we can not generalize to the whole population of browsers of the website. The respondents recruited will meet to discuss the following objectives as quoted in the research brief; To examine the attitudes of a range of current users towards the existing website To determine how current users navigate through the existing website To compare perceptions of the organisations website relative to the websites of its competitors To identify the potentials for enhanced features on the website To assist in the selection of the overall design or the website METHODOLOGY Focus group discussions A focus group is a form of qualitative research in which a group of people are asked about their perceptions, beliefs, opinions, and attitudes towards a product, service, concept, advertisement, idea or packaging, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/focus_group). By using this method, we will use a moderator who will preside over the group discussions and will ask questions to seek their opinions, ideas or perceptions concerning the website of Nestlà © Ghana as stated in the project brief. The moderator will do this in an interactive group setting where group members discus the research topic freely among themselves. We will use focus group discussions because, It will help us to acquire live feedback through direct interactions with participants. It will generate quick results from a group of people It provides in-depth information to the research and provides rich data in participants own words Sampling We will use a quota sample approach to recruit participants from the lots of browsers that visit the current website. In doing this we will create criteria that will aid us to select participants and we will abide or adhere to the 1998 Data Protection Act and the MRS Code of conducts. Focus Group Browsers Groups Number of Participants Category Group 1 8 Working staff Group 2 10 Customers (users of the website) Recruitment of group participants: We will set criteria with which browsers of the site will be selected as participants of the focus group discussions. Participants will be selected by screening with short questionnaires through emails. We will do this by taking the email addresses of browsers of the website that have been stored in Nestlà ©s database made possible by their invisible web tracker code on the existing website. The selected participants will then be sent e-mail invitations in two weeks advance of the focus group discussions. The participants who meet the criteria (quota) for selection will be promised incentives. Participants from working staff will be given products from the company and cash incentive of  £50 and participants from customers who browse the website will be given the same products from the company and cash incentive of  £50. Procedure Two focus groups will be undertaken, the first group will be a group for working staff of the company, and the second customers who browse the companys website. Eighteen respondents will be recruited, of which group one consisting of working staff will be made up of eight participants, and the second group consists of customers that browse the companys website with a sample size of ten. An interviewer will be used who will preside over the group discussions, and will be well briefed with the research objectives so that what ever question he/she will ask will be centered around the project brief. All group discussions will be completed in two days. The discussions will take place at the conference center at Golden Tulip, adjacent the company on the airport street. The location will make it convenient for participants to commute and flexible for staff who are taking part in the research. Caesar Research Agency will alert participants that they are recording participants for further study of the focus group discussions by the marketing team of Nestlà ©. The session will be observed by four members of Nestlà ©s marketing team behind one-way mirror, and will be provided with concealed microphones to enable the observers to hear the discussions. The discussion guide that will be use will follow the following sequence; PHASE ONE The Introduction Phase- 30 minutes PHASE TWO The Discussion Phase 1hour a. Discussion Phase 1- (30 minutes) To examine the attitudes of a range of current users towards the existing website To determine how current users navigate through the existing website To compare perceptions of the organisations website relative to the websites of its competitors To identify the potentials for enhanced features on the website To assist in the selection of the overall design or the website b. Discussion Phase 2- (30 minutes) Projective Techniques to adopt Word Association Test and Brand Mapping PHASE THREE Summary Phase 30 minutes Recap of key points Delivery of incentives Acknowledgements Data Analysis After collecting all the data which takes the form of video, and text, it will be edited and stored on CDs to be analyzed by the marketing team of Nestlà © in order to aid them in creating of the their website. Data from transcripts will be simplified, data in graph, charts form will be followed with notes for better understanding. 4.2.2Quantitative Research: Quantitative research is a ‘research that is undertaken using a structured research approach with a sample of the population to produce quantifiable insights into behaviour motivations and attitutes (Wilson, 2006). Here we will base our research on quantifiable models, theories and hypothesis. The research will cover a wide range of users of the companys website to examine the attitudes of a range of current users towards the existing website, to determine how current users navigate through the existing website, to compare perceptions of the organisations website relative to the websites of its competitors, and to identify the potentials for enhanced features on the website. We will use Face-to-face interviews and E-mail Survey to tap data to enable us meet the research objectives. Methodology Part 1 Face-to-face Interviews: We will use face-to-face interviews due to the nature of the research objectives we wish to achieve. Despite possible interviewer bias, it can improve the quality and rate of responses. The face-to-face will enable us to meet directly with participants to tap information from them. The face-to-face interview will be advantageous in the following ways; it will ensure full and accurate data to be collected it is quick and easy to collect data the personal feeling attached to it will encourage high response from respondents It enable the interviewer to pick up nonverbal cues from respondents PROCEDURE The interview will take place at the Aseda Nestlà © Depot. The reason for this location is that, most of the people who come to purchase at the depot are mainly retailers and wholesalers, and they normally make use of our site from time to time to seek information before coming over to purchase. The interviewers will meet customers on the compound of the Aseda Nestlà © Depot to interview them in order to tap information from them concerning the research brief at hand. We will make use of three interviewers who will be trained to be prepared to handle a wide variety of potential questions and responses from the customers. Interviewers will warmly welcome the customers and ask them to spare him/her two minutes of their time to answer some few questions to help the research agency to conduct a research. The questions that will be asked will take the form of the under listed questions: How often do you visit our website? For what purpose do you use the site? Do you spend time to read information provided on the website? How often do you use the search engine on the website? How often do you use our online chat feature provided on the website What do you think about the quality of our website as compared to that of competitors? What can you find on competitors website that cannot be found on our website? What do you think are the gaps in our existing website? What images do you wish to see in the new website to be developed? Do they wish to see animated images or still pictures? What is the reason the choice? The interviewer will thank the customer for his or her time and contribution to the survey, and then give him or her some products from Nestlà ©, and then move on to interview another customer. Methodology Part 2 E-Mail Survey: E-mail survey is a research technique in which questionnaires are sent and returned by mail (www. Bnet.com). An e-mail survey will be conducted to reach a large number of people at different geographical locations. Here there will not be any strict criteria for selection of respondents. The population of interest will be customers who use the Nestlà © website, and our sample size will be 200 people. The use of the e-mail survey could be advantageous in the various ways; It is cost effective It is quick or less time consuming to conduct It reach number of respondents within a short period of time It yields rapid response Methodology A quota sample will be used where 200 participants will be selected from the population of interest (customers who use the Nestlà © website). Respondents will fall into these categories. Categories Sample size Customers 150 Working staff 50 We will refer to the database of Nestlà © to get e-mail addresses of some customers ie; hotels, restaurants, wholesale shops and retail shops. We will then send questionnaires to them through emails. We will send the mail to about 350 customers, so that we can get our sample size incase of low turn up. The questionnaire will cover the following objectives; To examine the attitudes of a range of current users towards the existing website To determine how current users navigate through the existing website To compare perceptions of the organisations website relative to the websites of its competitors To identify the potentials for enhanced features on the website To assist in the selection of the overall design or the website Participants will fill out the questionnaire by using check boxes and use the ‘reply feature on their mail software to return the completed form. To entice customers, we will assure them of a handsome package of Nestlà © products to the first 100 participants whose questionnaire will be received well answered. This is to generate a large number of responses from participants. 5.0Budget: PHASE DESCRIPTIVE COST ( £) Staff Moderators 20,000 Secondary research Purchase of relevant research paper 12,000 Qualitative research Focus group discussions 7,000 Quantitative research Face-to-face, and E-mail survey 6,000 Miscellaneous Expenses Transportation, refreshments, stationery purchase 5,000 TOTAL=50,000 6.0Reporting of Research Findings: Reports on findings and observations generated from the research will be prepared and submitted to the Marketing Department of Nestlà © Ghana. The Natural and Perceval, The Story of the Holy Grail Essay -- Literar

The novel The Natural is written by Bernard Malamud. Bernard was a famous author mainly known for writing short stories and novels. He was considered one of the great American Jewish authors of the 20th century. Bernard was born in Brooklyn, New York. His parents were Russian Jewish immigrants and he had a brother named Eugene. Unfortunately, Malamud entered his adolescence when the Great Depression began. The Natural is one of his more famous books, which was written in 1952. This novel is about a baseball prodigy named Roy Hobbs. He has a bat that he made himself, which he calls Wonderboy. Roy plans to join the major leagues and break all the records. However, his plans are put on hold when a woman he meets shoots. After fifteen years after the tragedy Roy goes back to baseball and is drafted to the New York Knights. Along his journey to becoming a superstar he is distracted from his goal by the women in his life. The Natural is very much similar to the mythological story of Percev al, the Story of the Holy Grail. Roy Hobbs is comparable to Perceval, Pop Fisher to the Fisher King and the pennant to the Holy Grail. Roy Hobbs and Perceval are similar because they are both the main characters of their own stories. Both their parents had some sort of natural talent. Perceval’s father was a great knight and Roy’s father was a baseball player. They then passed their gifts on to their children, which are Roy and Perceval. â€Å"Roy Hobbs is the Perceval figure of the Natural. Hobbs is a â€Å"natural† both in his ability to play baseball and in his simple and naà ¯ve manner.† (Source 4 Page 1) Perceval and Roy have special talents and are good at what they do. Perceval can fight and he leads his army to victory. â€Å"Perceval does battle with 20 of ... ... back to life again. Roy’s team was losing countless games in a row and Perceval’s kingdom has been suffering for numerous years. Nevertheless, Roy ends up not obtaining his goal and fails many people while Perceval finds the Holy Grail and is a hero among his kingdom. In conclusion, there are many characters, items and symbols in The Natural that are similar and related to the ones in Perceval, the story of the Holy Grail. Roy and Perceval are related because of their natural talents in baseball and fighting, the type of parents they come from and the same goals that they share. Pop Fisher and the Fisher King are parallel due to the related kind of illness they both have and the type of situation they are in. The pennant and the Holy Grail are comparable because they are the important treasures and goals that each of the main characters seek and hope to obtain.

History, the Concatenation of Human Experiences :: European Europe History

History, the Concatenation of Human Experiences In June 1961, I left Berlin, Germany, with my parents, my sister, and my Swedish cousin enroute to Sweden for what was to be two weeks of Scandinavian fun. The Russian soldiers who processed us through the checkpoints were impeccably dressed in jodhpurs and the shiniest black riding boots I had ever seen. It was obvious they had been carefully selected for this job, which entailed a goodly measure of public relations; the Communists displayed only their best. The soldiers were not only good looking and efficient, processing our papers quickly; on that day they were noticeably relaxed, with genuine smiles on their faces. A week earlier than planned, my family returned to Berlin, driving through the same checkpoints. This time the atmosphere was tense. There were no smiles. Passports and other papers were scrutinized slowly, creating long delays, much to our discomfort. What had caused the change? An event that will be taught in history classes for hundreds of years. An event that even a thousand years from now will be at least a footnote in the history books. The East Germans had erected a wall, dividing one of the world’s most famous cities in two. Barbara Tuchman would argue—correctly, I think—that it is too soon to write the history of the Berlin Crisis. This contemporary generation, born and raised in the tensions of the Cold War, will record the facts and write the narrative, but we are too close to have a good perspective on it (Tuchman 27-28). For the interpretation of those facts, we will have to wait for the generation now being born, a generation which will have few, if any, emotional attachments to the event and therefore be better able to analyze it with some objectivity—or ignorance, as Edward H. Carr would call it (9). This is how history is written. It is a process—a recording of facts and later an interpreting of those facts to relate them to the future generations. The question, of course, is what history our descendants will write. Human beings are by nature egocentric. In the West we assume future historians will see the crisis as we do. The wall was not constructed for noble reasons; it was a manifestation of the evil empire, was it not?

John Staurt Mill - Electronic Democracy :: essays research papers

There is no difficulty in showing that the ideally best form of government is that in which the sovereignty, or supreme controlling power in the last resort, is vested in the entire aggregate of the community; every citizen not only having a voice in the exercise of that ultimate sovereignty, but being, at least occasionally, called on to take an active part in the government, by the personal discharge of some public function, local or general John Stuart Mill agreed that democracy was the form of government that could best secure the happiness of all. But the end is not just well-being, as earlier utilitarians argued, though it is that. The end that recommends it is the tendency to foster self-development and individuality. Representative government, is particular, he defended as that form which best encourages individuality. It leads people to take a more active and intelligent participation in society. It provides moral training and encourages the development of natural human sympathies. The result is the habit of looking at social questions from an impersonal perspective rather than that of self-interest. But Mill's defense of democracy was much qualified. To be sure, he was, like the earlier utilitarians, sympathetic to the fall of the ancient regime and to the ends of the French Revolution. He strove to liberalize the press still severely bound by an absurd libel law that excluded effective social criticism. But infl uenced by Coleridge he had come to see that there were virtues in social systems, even out-dated ones, else why would not have survived so long. He therefore came to appreciate the conservative arguments that unrestrained freedom is dangerous. Mill argued, reasonably on utilitarian grounds, that social institutions need to be adapted to the time and place where they operate. He even suggests that, since people must be properly fit if democracy is to function well, a despotic form of government, if well-run with this aim in mind, might prepare its people for the exercise of responsibilities of a free electorate. In his thinking about how best to administer a state as a whole, Mill argued that the best administration was one that relied upon professional skills. In a representative democracy, if you can control the majority, then you can control everyone. Like other tyrannies, the tyranny of the majority was at first, and is still vulgarly, held in dread, chiefly as operating through the acts of the public authorities.

Post war Greece Essay

Benito Mussolini had expansionists policies in his Fascist regime in Italy. By the mid of 1940, Mussolini had started admiring Adolf Hitler’s conquests and wanted to prove his counterpart, Hitler who was an Axis partner, that he too could lead Italy to success in war. Italy took control over Albania in 1939. Italians invaded Greece after the Greek dictator whose name was I. Metaxas refused to honor Italian ultimatum demanding the occupation of Greek territory. The Greek counter attacked and forced the Italians out and even took control of Albania formerly under Italy. In April 1941, Germany started attacking Greece and the Italian army also resumed their attack to Greece. As a result, the Greece army started retreating back from Albania to avoid a possible cut off by the rapidly advancing Germany troops. On April 20th, the Greek army based at Epirus surrendered to their enemies, the Germans and on the 23rd the same month, the same was repeated now to include the Italians and thus bringing the war between Greece and Italy to an end. The Greek victory over the Italian offensive on October 1940 was the first victory of the second world war and this boosted the morale in the occupied Europe Italian soldiers came across the Greek border in the 28th day of October 1940 but Greek defenders who were more determined drove these invaders back in to Albania (McNail, 167). As the death of Metaxas came in January 1941, he had already undergone a transformation from unpopular dictator who was not admirable by the people in to a national leader liked by the people, by his defiance of Mussolini and to the people his death was a great loss. Hitler was forced to reluctantly divert the troops from Germany to go and rescue Mussolini from being defeated and as a result ended up attacking Greece through Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. In response, the Greek sought for assistance from the British, and assistance was given readily although Greeks kept insisting stubbornly to defend Macedonia and Thrace from attacks by the Germany invaders while the Greece’s only hope was to strategically withdraw to a defensive line on a river south of Thessaloniki. Towards the end of May, the German troops had taken control over much of the land in Greece. Both the king and the government escaped to Crete and stayed here until the battle of Crete finally came to an end. From here, they transferred to Egypt where they established a government in exile while an establishment of a Nazi held puppet regime took place in Athens, Greece. Members of this regime were either conservatives or belonging to the nationalists but with fascist leanings. The three people who collaborated with the enemy were T. Georgis, K. Logothetopoulos and R. Ioannis. T. Georgis was the general who signed the armistice earlier with Wehrmacht, while Logothetopoulos had become naughty for having aimed to recruit juvenile volunteers to help in restrengthening the Germany army. On the other hand, R. Ioannis had a very notable achievement in that he saw to the creation of the security battalions for the collaborationists to protect those who supported the enemies. Greece greatly suffered very terrible privations during the second world war when the Germans took control of most of the Greece’s agricultural production and also prevented the fishing fleets of Greece from operating. Following the Axis force occupation on the Greek land, a great famine struck in the year 1941 and 1942 because of the blockade by the British naval and also due to the fact that Germany soldiers had seized the crops. Due to hunger and other associated effects of famine, several thousands of Greeks died. AS a result, several resistance movements came up in the hilly and mountain regions and soon the Germans and those who supported them remained in control of only the major highways and the connected towns. The largest of the up coming group was the National Popular Liberation Army (the ELAS) which was under the control of the communists and a civil war soon broke out between the National popular liberation army and the non- communists uprising groups such as the national republican Greek league (the EDES) in the areas which had been liberated from the German troops. The royalist government set up in exile in Cairo was only intermittently keeping in touch with the resistant movement and this government in Cairo failed to appreciate how the monarchy set up in Greece had lost its popularity. The resistance of the Greeks people against invasion by the Italians had a great influence to the course the second world war took. Adolf Hitler would say that if Italy had not attacked Greece and needed Germany assistance, the world war would have taken a quite different course. What would be anticipated was the cold war in Russia by weeks, Moscow and Reningrad conquered and Stalingrad would not have existed. The need to occupy Greece, suppress partisans and defend Greece from Allied actions led Germany and Italy to drop much of their differences during the second world war. The Greek resistance ultimately necessitated collaboration between Germany and Italy. Due to political considerations, British forces were send to Greece from Middle East, and this was considered to be a major strategic mistake because that was a critical stage to divert military forces from Middle East. The British forces could not stop Germany invasion in Greece. Political disorder and the 1946-49 war in Greece In October 1944, German forces withdrew from Greece and the Greece government in exile came back to Athens. Then the ELAS guerrilla soldiers took control over most of the land in Greece with its leaders having an ultimate aim to control the whole country despite Stallin’s agreement that Greece would remain within the region of influence by the British after the war. Demonstrators from the Communist Athens ended in violence in early December 1944, and then followed a door to door battle with the British forces and the monarchist armies. Before a month had ended, the communists had been defeated and an unstable government of coalition was established. Continued tensions within this government led to a civil war in the year 1946. Greece was backed by Britain and later by the United States in terms of military support and economic aid. Between 1947 and 1948, the communist forces had conquered much of the Greece mainland and were able to move freely within the land. With the extensive material support from America and the reorganization, the Greek navy steadily took control over much of the mainland. Yugoslavia had to close her borders from the insurgent military in 1949 after it broke relationship with the Soviet Union. In 1949, a final offensive was launched by Marshal P. Alexander that forced the insurgents who were left back to flee across the border to the north in to the territories of the Greece neighbors or else they surrender. The civil war left about one hundred people killed and also resulted to major damages to the economy. More than twenty five thousand Greeks and many Macedonian Slavs were evacuated to the eastern bloc countries either by force or voluntarily while over seven hundred thousand people became internally displaced people in Greece and many more emigrated to, among other countries, Australia. This settlement after the war greatly expanded the Greece territory which had already started earlier in 1832. In 1947, a treaty in Paris was signed and it required Italy to surrender the Dodecanese islands to the Greece. These islands had the majority of inhabitants speaking Greece and were part of the last areas to be incorporated to the Greek state, except Cyprus which remained under possession of Britain until its independence later in 1960. Greeks ethnicity became more homogeneous after the war when more than twenty five thousand Albanians were expelled from Epirus. The remaining minorities of no significance were the Muslims in West Thrace and few Slavic speaking in the north. Greeks continued to claim more of the southern Albania where significant Greek population lived. Economic miracle for Greece: 1955-79) The Greek economic miracle implies the factual and impressive rate of social and economic development that occurred in Greece from the early of 1950s to the middle of the 1970s. The average rate of economic growth recorded between the year 1950 to 1973 was about seven percent which was the worlds second best after that of Japan in those times. The 1950s growth rate was the highest sometimes going above ten percent, almost nearing those of a modern tiger economy. This continued up to 1960s. The Greek people did not view it as a miracle because since the period after the war until the middle of the 1970s, it was a time of deep political divisions that resulted to military dictatorship between 1957 to 1964 and the Greeks did not see any positive economic change for this period of twenty years. Further more, growth initially only widened the economic gap between the few rich and the majority poor and this could only intensify political divisions. Between 1941 and 1944, the Axis occupation and the fighting with resistance groups had unexpected effects on the infrastructure and also on the Greece’s economy. Given also that after the end of the first world war, Greece went in to civil war, its economy had drastically fallen by 1950. The Greece per capita income as a measure of its purchasing power fell, just like that of France, from 62 percent to about 40 percent in the year 1949 (Cranidlis, 97). Greece experienced a rapid recovery of its poor economic condition. This was as a result of a number of factors among them the stimulation from the Marshall plan, a fast devaluation of the Drachma, more foreign investments, significant industrial development especially the development of the chemical industry, development of the public services sector and development of tourism industry and a widespread construction activities coming as a result of enormous infrastructural project building and rebuilding in the Greek towns and cities. The construction activities are connected with the fast economic growth on the society and the development of its towns. This led to renewal of the urban through replacing the pleasant urban, consisting mainly of low rising houses and peoples homes, with a continuous set of concrete and block storey and skyscrapers in most key cities and towns. After 1950, economic growth consistently was better than that of many European countries in terms of annual growth. The only time there was economic stagnation was in the 1980s but it was counterbalanced when the Greek black economy evolved at the same time. The good economic performance made Greece advance its economy to enjoy a per capita income almost the same as that of other European Union partners like France and German (Krofas, 123). After end of the civil war, Greece sought to join hands with the western democracies by becoming a member of NATO in the year 1952. From this time to the late 1963, Greece was under conservative parties. In1964, the party called the Center Union led by George Papandreau was elected and remained in rule until July of 1965 before he was dismissed by king Constantine II, thereby resulting to a constitutional crisis. The fall of this government led to a series of coalition governments between the conservatives and rebel liberals. On April 1967, a group of colonels from the right wing seized power in a coup. They suppressed civil liberties , established special military courts and dissolved political parties. Thousands of political party opponents and those suspected to be communists were imprisoned or taken to exile to very remote Greek islands. United States was alleged to have supported junta and this caused the rise of anti- Americanism in the Greece during and immediately after the junta rule. However, the united states had already earned the animosity of communists in Greece long before. In 1974, a referendum resulted in abolishment of a monarchy and a new constitution was made and passed by the parliament on the 19th of June 1975. President T. Constantine was elected by parliament to head the republic. In the 1977 elections to the parliament, the New democracy party won for a second time with a majority seats. In 1980, Karamanlis who was the prime minister was elected to succeed T. Constantine as the president with George Rallis being elected as the prime minister to succeed Tsatsos. Greece joined the European Community, now called the European Union on 1st January 1981. It also elected the country’s first socialist government. In 1989, there were two rounds of parliamentary elections which both produced coalition governments that were weak and had limited mandates. Party leaders held back their support for those governments and elections were once again held in April. The new democracy party led by Constantine Mitsotakis won. In 1992, Samaras formed his own party after being fired from the position of a cabinet minister for Foreign affairs. He called the party the Political Spring. As a result of this division, the New democracy government collapsed and when new elections were held in September 1993, Papandreou returned to power. Papandreou resigned on January 17th of 1996 due to a protracted illness. He was then replaced as the country’s prime minster by the former minister of trade and industry by the name, Costas Simitis who consecutively won the elections in 1996 and also in 2000 before retiring in 2004. His successor was George Papandreou as PASOK leader. In March 2004, elections were held and New Democracy under the leadership of Costas Karamanlis who was a nephew to the former president saw the victory over the PASOK. Instead of waiting for normal elections that should have been held in March the year 2008, the government called for elections in September 2007 and the New Democracy once again won the majority vote in the parliament. Due to this repeated defeat, the PASOK underwent a party election in search of a new leader that saw Mr. Georgis Papandreau re-election as the party leader of the Socialist Party in Greece. Review of Economic Literature It is important to review the economic thoughts from both the Greek and the American writers and compare them in the perspective of the economic reconstruction of Greece. A good approach would be first reviewing the economic thought in the 1930s and 1940s and then that of the American technical experts who were either in Greece based American embassy or in the AMAG. (Lincoln, 64). Reviewing the plans by Batsis, Valvaresos and Zolotas is also of importance to acquire a clear thought about the economic miracle and general development for the Greece from very poor to one of the world’s best economies. A scrutiny of what the exact agenda of the AMAG and other aids to develop the Greece economy was, is of importance in shining light in to this issue. Establishing whether there was any difference between the American economic experts working with the AMAG and Americans working in the American embassy to Greece in Athens in terms of priorities and the paths to reconstruction is felt to be essential. This way, most questions of much concern to economic historians will be answered well and also valuable material towards making reconstructions in the history of economics will be unearthed, especially for the post second world war period in Greece The depression of economy in the whole world led the default in Greece in the year 1932and afterwards to the introduction of a quite successful system. The gross domestic product was 510 million dollars in the year 1931, then dropped to 330 million dollars in the year 1932, remained at the same stable low level in 1934 at 340 million dollars and drastically rose in the subsequent years of 1934 at 490 million dollars, 1935 at 510 million dollars and 1936 at 550 million dollars. Despite the economic success, the poor remained miserable due to the falling prices and the problem of the merchant class which was used to free trade and had problem with coping in the new trade conditions of exchange controls. Most Greek economists concentrated on writing and analyzing the economic success of their country and did very little on questioning the actual role of the American Mission Aid for Greece that it played in uplifting the economic situation of Greece. The economists made numerous economic publications such as books, journals, treatises, periodicals among others. The interventionists were most influential and they had studies in Germany in 1920s to 1930s. These economists espoused a development theory stage to which the Greek government ought to take to speed up the rate of economic development. It was based on the fact that the economy of Greece could not rely on private initiative alone. Most of them remained hostile to abstract thinking and viewed the dirigiste policies world over as evidence of the validity of their thesis. The liberals viewed the historical present hitherto as a parenthesis and had a believe that the whole world including Greece economy ought to have an international economic corporation. The liberals also supported that it was necessary for the state to intervene and as a result they came up with a frame upon which the Greece government should act upon in a liberal economy. The Marxists viewed the crash of 1929 as evidence for capitalism break down. Particularly in Greece, the imperialism of the great powers and the kings rule were to be overthrown by mass action for socialism to be established.

A Wireless Communication

5G is a wireless communication and it is updated version from 4G, but it has higher speed reach to 10Gbps. : 1GThe first generation appeared in the early 1980s. Its data rate is 4.2 kbps. It has a lot of flaws Like :Store and listen to voice calls through a third party[1].: 2GThe second generation emerged in the late 1990s. Its data rate reaches 64 kbps. It has many features such as: long battery life for low-power radio signals and many services such as SMS and e-mail[1].:3GThis generation emerged in late 2000. It transmits data at up to 2 Mbps. It has been improved in an unconventional way to maintain and provide quality services. One of its advantages is that it has many amenities such as global roaming and sound quality but requires more power compared to the second generation[1].3.75G:LTE and the worldwide microwave interface Access (WIMAX) is the future of mobile data services. LTE and WIMAX constant has the ability to providing facilities for a large number of users to access a wide range of high speed services Such as on-demand video, and peer-to-peer file sharing Composite Web Services. It also allows operators to manage their network in a very homogeneous manner and provide better coverage while improving it to perform at a lower cost[1].4G:The fourth generation is generally referred to as the scion of 3G and second generation standards. It transfers amenities such as voice, data, and multimedia to subscribersEverywhere and at higher data rates than in previous generations[1].What is 5G ?5G is a combination or amalgamation of all previous Generations that are 2G, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi with higher capabilities in terms of coverage and reliability. Centered Approach Essay

Family-Centered Approach ECE 313 Collaboration with Parents & Community Kathleen Thomas October 10, 2011 Instructor Cindy Hopper The economy has hit an all time low and has caused two parent households and single parent households into the workforce. As a result of this the parents are looking for childcare centers for their children. The main concern of these parents is will the centers help with the behavior and development of their children. These parents are looking for a place that is going to help with the development of their children’s self-help skills, empowerment, pro-social skills, self-esteem and attachment. These are behaviors that are not easily controlled and because the children spend the majority of their time in the centers the parents are hoping that together they can help develop desired behavior. That is why they are looking for a center that uses the family-centered approach. As the educator you have to develop a relationship with the children and their parents, the parents have to feel that they are going to be involved in everything that goes on in the center and that concerns their child. The educator has to sit down and learn about the child from the parent so that the educator will know what the parent expects from the educator and the center. The educator has to spend time with the child so that they can start to form a relationship. Family-centered has been defined as: Focus on the children within their families. The program includes the family as an integral, inseparable, part of the children’s education and socialization. Families along with their children are the program. (Gonzalez-Mena) p. . It is very important to acknowledge the children within their families because this way, you remember that you can not do anything without involving both of them. It is important that the educators know what the parents expectations are, Teaching children desired behavior may not be easy even when the educator and the parent are using the same methods. Potty training may require the educator and the parent using the same procedure which might be putting the child on the potty several times a day. If either of them changes the procedure this might cause the child to become confused and it may take longer to train her. To encourage desired behavior from children, parents and teachers need to have a strong relationship with the children. A warm affectionate bond and a positive emotional tone in the home and center will convince the children that their teachers and parents are on the same team and promote a spirit of cooperation and understanding. (Neifert, Marianne, MD) Helping a child develop self-esteem takes a lot of work because you can not do it by saying things that are not realistic. You can not say you are the prettiest girl in the world and think that this will help her self-esteem, as a parent you have to promote self assurances, self-help, competence and being â€Å"special. † Self-esteem rises if the individual is proud to perceive herself as being in possession of these traits. (Gonzalez-Mena) p. 205. Self-esteem has four dimensions: significance, competence, power and virtue. Teaching a child about self-esteem would be difficult because hopefully the child would feel loved and cared for by her parents and she would need to feel that you loved and cared for her too. However, if the child did not feel that she was important this is not something that you can make happen. You can try by showing her that you do care about her and that she is important. You could compliment her when she has achieved a goal that was set for her but you should not over praise her. To promote self-esteem you should never have a critical attitude, label a child or use name calling. Use encouragement instead of always praising them. When they have done something better than the last time make a comparison about how much better it was this time. Never compare your child’s performance to another child’s. Children will fail at some of the things that they try to do but this will be an experience for them. Have realistic expectations; be certain that your expectations for the children’s behavior match their age and developmental abilities. You have to be prepared to show them what it is that you want them to do. Practice the skills with them so that they will be able to do them alone. It is not impossible for a two year old to put on their coats but this two year old might not be ready, you will have to practice this over and over until the child is able to do it themselves. Competence, power and virtue are a part of self-esteem and these things might be easier to teach, being competent means that you have skills that you are very good at. If you were doing these skills on a daily basis you would someday be extremely good at that skill. Power is believing that you are in charge of something other than the paper clips and that you have control over the things that happen in your life. Virtue is being a good person and knowing right from wrong. Educators can take these four dimensions and use them to help a child learn how to feel good about themselves. Teaching pro-social skills you can model the children yourself, you have to set limits and tell them why you are setting the limits. The reason is because you don’t want them to get hurt. Have children work and play together so that they will cooperate better. When children are involved in a conflict it is your responsibility to resolve it with a solving approach. Always avoid punishment as a way of discipline. There are other things that you can do when trying to teach pro-social skills; as an educator you should sincerely acknowledge children’s pro-social behavior by recognizing when they are doing things together (ex: two children have started cleaning up the art area) your response could be â€Å"that is real cooperation†. You should explain reasons for rules and help the children understand the effects of their behavior on others. This type of inductive discipline seems to encourage child to be kind and helpful. (Berman, K. L. , M. M. Torres, C. E. Domitrovich, J. A. An educator can encourage good behavior by using a reward system. Choose a behavior you would like to change. There might be a child in your classroom who will not sit still in his seat; you can tell him that if he sits still that you will reward him for staying in his seat. You can tell him that he has to earn five tokens by staying in his seat when you are teaching the class and that five tokens will get him ice cream at lunchtime. It does not have to be tokens; you might have a chart with everyone’s name on it and at the end of the week if they have receive a star for everyday they will receive extra cookies at snack time. Share your reward system with the parents and see if that helps them out with behavior problems at home.

Evan Michel Mr. Rotolo Advanced Composition 31 August 2010 One of the most challenging parts about facing difficult times and hard ship is learning how to look past the adverse times to see the brighter side of your troubles and the lighter side of your struggles. President Gerald R. Ford made a speech to Washington’s Gridiron Club and stated just that. Americans are at their very best when they look at the brighter side of their troubles and the lighter side of their struggles,† the quote from President Ford’s speech is a perfect reminder that no matter what hardships you are going through it can always be made better by looking at it from a different perspective. By embracing the brighter side of the problem Americans are able to address the problem that is at stake and happening right now instead of being held back by past problems and hesitation.Americans go through times where it is extremely hard to put food on the table and many citizens can’t take t hat kind of stress. This is when President Ford’s advice can come into play. If only the Americans that are going through these hardships would look differently at them instead of struggling and trying to fight them their life would be made much easier because they could solve the problems and move on with their lives. Over the history of our country there has been many instances where these hard times are present not only to some but to all and many people just break down and give up.For example The Great Depression was a time when the stock market crashed and America as a whole was going through an adverse time. During this time there were a small handful of people who looked at the problem from a different point of view, as recommended by President Ford and helped pull our country out of that whole and back to its former self. If no one would have taken action during that time and everyone would have waited for someone else to do it for them then America would probably sti ll be in a depression. No matter what type of problems we face and how difficult they are they can all be overcome. This can be done by looking at the brighter side of life and remembering and other past hardships that were overcome and how you overcame them and putting that knowledge to use. Whether the problem is big or small Americans can overcome it together by trying. Overall President Gerald R. Ford’s speech to Washington’s Gridiron Club is all the advice needed to get through any hard time in life.

Identify how fundamental marketing techniques have been used to launch Essay - 1

Identify how fundamental marketing techniques have been used to launch a successful product - Essay Example It provides platforms and solutions for the consumer’s accessibility to time-sensitive information through telephone, email, text messaging, Internet, and all intranet-based applications (Frenzel 2004). Marketing is the practice of management that effectively and beneficially recognizes, foresees and satisfies customer requirements (Chartered Institute of Marketing, n.d.) Marketing concept, according to Kotler and associates (2008), is a customer-centered philosophy that productive sales and adequate investment returns are achievable when customer needs are met. It is focused on customer orientation, business-and-customer relationship and customer satisfaction (Kotler, 5) Marketing is an essential element of every commercial business, apart from the product type, environs, target market, or the service provided. With the arrival of modern technology, particularly the internet, innovative business forms have surfaced necessitating an array of marketing techniques to magnetize and maintain customers. Before 2002, BlackBerry was principally a wireless electronic mail solution, mainly targeted on the upper corporate sector. Partly based and highlighted from the old logo of BlackBerry phones, its original brand positioning was to be "the best wireless email solution for business." (‘Our Work: BlackBerry: Connecting a Breakaway Brand with its Users’ 2010). The increase in technology shifts and the impact of BlackBerry branding on the development of the general mobile communication market and its effect on consumer requirements and behaviours, prompted RIM marketing group to implement a repositioning of the BlackBerry brand: A repositioning that is beyond short-lived fashionable technology and email usefulness (‘Our Work: BlackBerry: Connecting a Breakaway Brand with its Users’ 2010). In 2002, the Research in Motion, together with Landor, a top branding expert, redesigned BlackBerry’s
